UN Secretary General launches Database on Violence Against Women

This publicly accessible and searchable database is expected to ensure easy access to up-to-date information, encourage further data collection, increase opportunities for exchanging information and strengthen the knowledge base for effective policy responses to prevent and address violence against women. The database is also intended to provide a strong link to the Secretary General’s UNiTE to end violence against women campaign.

The majority of the information im the database is based on responses to the Secretary General’s violence against women questionnaire. Sixty-one UN member states, including Ireland, provided questionnaire responses, and 34 of these have been entered into the database. The rest will be included soon. Other information is based on UN statements and other questionnaires submitted to the UN Secretary General. Ireland's response has now been included in the database.

The database can be accessed at   www.un.org/esa/vawdatabase
