1. Cosc National Strategy Consultations

Cosc Begins Consultations on the National Strategy on Domestic and Sexual Violence

The development of a National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence is one of Cosc’s primary goals. This strategy will set out the vision, objectives and the required actions to tackle these crimes.

The overall aim of this work is to reduce the prevalence of the crimes and to ensure that the system of prevention and response functions effectively in a co-ordinated manner. The strategy will also focus on increasing the understanding of the general public and professional services, supporting victims and ensuring the accountability of offenders.

Cosc advertised in the national press for submissions in relation to this Strategy. Forty eight submissions were received covering a broad range of issues across all sectors. A summary report of the submissions received is now available to download from our "Consultation Documents" page.

Cosc recognises the value in listening to the views of policy makers, service providers, victims’ representatives and victims. A series of  consultation sessions are taking place across the county to provide an opportunity to express views and to raise particular matters relevant to the national strategy. The dates and locations are shown below. Cosc has been advised that the maximum attendance numbers for an effective consultation is in the region of 60 people.

In order to assist participation at a convenient location and to maximise the effectiveness of the consultations, Cosc is issuing letters of invitation to those organisations working close to a consultation venue.

These meetings will be facilitated by the Institute of Public Administration (IPA).

It would be helpful for participants to be familiar with the report of the Cosc conference and the report of submissions on the strategy.
