Ms. Frances Fitzgerald T.D. Minister for Justice and Equality met with White House Advisor on Domestic Violence, Lynn Rosenthal yesterday (23 October) in the Houses of the Oireachtas.

The Minister and Ms. Rosenthal discussed developments in relation to preventing domestic violence and supporting victims in Ireland and in the U.S. Ms. Rosenthal launched the Safe Ireland MANUP campaign, which was funded by the Department of Justice and Equality on Wednesday (22 October).

After the meeting the Minister said:

“I am delighted that my Department was able to provide funding for the MANUP campaign. The campaign moves the awareness agenda to prevention of domestic violence. It enrols the support of men in this important work. The poster, online video, Liberty Hall banner and radio advertising state clearly: ‘A man’s man is a woman’s man too’”.

The Minister went on to say:

“State funding of voluntary sector campaigns is good value for money because it leverages creativity and volunteer and pro bono contributions, as was the case for MANUP.”

The Minister and Ms. Rosenthal agreed that further exchanges and the exploration of possible cooperation between Ireland and the US in relation to domestic violence would be useful.
