Cosc Research Update

An update on the work of Cosc's research unit is as follows:

• Mapping of Domestic and Sexual Violence Service Provision in Ireland: The Research Unit at Cosc developed and implemented a mixed-method study to examine the nature and coordination of State and non-State service provision in relation to domestic and sexual violence in Ireland.  This study both looked at the range of service provision in the sector and explored the development of co-ordination among organisations operating in the domestic and sexual violence sector.  Analyses are complete and have informed the development of the National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence (2010-2114). The full report is currently being prepared.

• Mapping of domestic and sexual violence awareness raising in secondary schools:  A national representative survey of post-primary schools in Ireland with regard to awareness raising programmes and activities on domestic and sexual violence was developed and implemented by Cosc. The survey is the first of its kind in Ireland and was well-supported by schools across the country.  The results from the survey informed the development of the National Strategy on Domestic Sexual and Gender-based Violence in Ireland (2010-2114).  The full report is currently being prepared and will be used by Cosc to inform work on the implementation of the National Strategy.

• Domestic and Sexual Violence Data in Ireland:  This study was undertaken by Dr. Maureen Lyons, UCD.  The report is currently being drafted and will be used by Cosc to inform future data related work.

Cosc's new research programme for 2010 is currently under active development.
