  1. Raising the Standards Conference

6th Annual Raising the Standards Conference

‘Raising the Standards’ is an Inter-Jurisdictional group, which was set up in 2000 to share information and good practice on domestic violence related issues.  The Group comprises representatives of Government Departments and State Agencies from Ireland, Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.  Cosc is the lead representative for Ireland at the group and representatives of other State bodies also attend from time to time, including the Department of Health and Children, An Garda Síochána, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the members of the judiciary.  Other jurisdictions provide representation from equivalent or similar organisations.
Over the past few years the group has hosted successful conferences on Domestic Violence in Dublin, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast and Guernsey.    The aim of the conferences is to hear, discuss and exchange information, learn about recent developments and share innovative and best standards of practice.  Attendance at these conferences is drawn from the wider community working or interested in the area, both state and non-state organisations.  There is no charge for these conferences.

The sixth conference is to be held in Jersey, Channel Islands on the 11th and 12th of May, 2009. The theme of the conference will be Domestic Abuse – A Lifetime Continuum - from cradle to grave.  The conference is expected to address a broad range of issues in the area including : the impact on children; evolving judicial and other processes; issues related to health of diverse communities; and abuse of older, disabled and other vulnerable adults.

You may register for the conference on-line at:

Please also note that Cosc is not in a position to assist with travel and accommodation costs for any individual or organisation.  Such costs must be borne by the attendee’s own organisation.
