On January 12th 2009, Cosc launched a public awareness campaign, "Your Silence Feeds the Violence" on billboards, national and local radio and online. The national campaign was based on the results of a survey of the Irish public’s attitudes to domestic violence. The survey showed that although the Irish public believed that domestic violence in Ireland was common and was of a criminal nature, most people would only intervene under limited circumstances. The campaign was designed to encourage Irish society as a whole to realise that only by taking an active role can we stop domestic violence from destroying thousands of lives.
