|Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) Donegal||The SATU Service facilitates a coordinated service for females and males 14 years and over who have been raped or sexually assaulted. A full range of clinical, forensic and supportive care is provided in the SATU. The service works form an inter-agency approach and in Donegal, the Donegal Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) attend every call out to the service providing psychological support to the patient and family members where appropriate. Report the crime to An Garda Síochána therefore; the response team consists of the Forensic Examiner, a Support Nurse, a voluteer from DRCC and An Garda Síochána for continuity of evidence. (Forensic samples are collected if the incident occured with 7 days)
Patients who do not want to report the crime to An Garda Síochána. The same team is present except for An Garda Síochána and foresnic samples are not taken at this time.
Patients who attend outside the 7 days, all treatment is provided except for the collection of forensic samples whether An Garda Síóchána are present or not.
Medical stability and patient safety takes precedence. The SATU wukk treat minor injuries, offer prophylaxis medication for pervention of pregnancy, STI's and immunisation as apporpriate.
Each patient is offered follow up care for STI screening, psychological care and referral to other services as necessary.
Depending on the nature of the incident referral and support from services such as Domestic Violence Services, Refuge Services and general support services will be offered and sought.
Children First (2011) Guidance Reporting Procedures will be adhered to in all cases
We provide training, education and information sessions to the general public, other health and allied professionals, second and third level students, An Garda Síochána and non-governement agencies.
